BASEMENTS
CANDLEMAKER
DRIVE
This basement was just a chunk of concrete before we came in, and now, it's a completely finished area! We added an office/music room, complete with fully insulated walls and ceiling with a solid core door for the drummer in the family. In addition, we made a media area, two storage spots, a closet, and installed knee walls down the stairs with a handrail.
BERKSHIRE
CLUB DRIVE
This basement was part of a larger home remodel (see the rest on the Bathrooms page!), and consisted of three sections: the main basement, a half-bath, and a small walk-out area. For the basement, we installed carpeting and can lights and painted the wallboard. The half-bath was refurbished to have a similar styling to the other bathrooms we remodeled. Finally, we built a small deck outside that the back door opens onto.
After
EASTGATE,
OHIO
The owners of this home decided that, rather than just have an unfinished space relegated to storage, they wanted a basement they could use for a variety of purposes. We framed out the entire basement, dividing it into several different rooms. After running wiring, we insulated the walls and put up drywall. The room was then painted and trimmed, and we installed some ceiling light fixtures.
ANDERSON
TOWNSHIP
This home had a wet bar in the basement that wasn't being used, and the owners decided to remove it in order to open up the room. We took out the bar and removed the carpet, as it would leave a noticeable hole in the middle of the room. New hardwood floors were installed, and the walls were given a fresh coat of paint.
MONTGOMERY,
OHIO
Another basement that was converted from storage to a great living space! For this project, we first had to build and frame new walls, which were then insulated as necessary. We then installed a fireplace and a wrap-around mantel above it. The cement floor was retained for a unique look, but linoleum was installed in the bar area. We also installed a half-bath and recessed lighting throughout the room.
PIERCE
TOWNSHIP
Another basement converted from storage to an entertainment center! We began by framing the walls, which presented an interesting challenge; we actually had to build conduits for the plumbing because it couldn't be moved and we didn't want to make the room smaller. Once the framing was done, we hung the wallboard, painted the walls and ceiling (we actually painted the joists instead of putting in drywall), and installed some recessed lights, flooring, and trim.
UNION,
KENTUCKY
This basement was converted from storage into what could easily be an apartment! We framed new walls and installed insulation to create a main room, a utility/storage room, a closet, and a full bathroom (see the rest in the Bathrooms section!). Interestingly, like the Pierce Point basement, the owners decided to paint the ceiling black instead of installing drywall, which leads to a unique look and leaves access for future wiring and plumbing needs.
