This kitchen renovation was part of a larger remodel project (see the Bathrooms section for the rest!). As with the bathroom, the overall footprint was great, and the room was basically just in need of an update. After removing the cabinets, fixtures, and soffit, we installed new hardwood floors, new cabinets with quartz countertops, new appliances, and a tile backsplash. We also painted the trim, doors, walls, and the ceiling on the entire first floor.

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP
This kitchen renovation was part of an overall remodel of the first floor of the house (see the Other Rooms section for the rest!). We first removed the pantry closet and the office desk. We then installed new baseboards (which were installed throughout the first floor) and expanded the walk-through openings on both ends of kitchen. Finally, we installed a wooden floating bench where the pantry and office desk used to be.

It's amazing what a difference lighter cabinets and taking down a wall can make to a kitchen! For this remodel, we took down the wall between the kitchen and dining room, and relocated the sink, dishwasher, and garbage disposal to an island, complete with seating, where the wall used to be. We also moved the refrigerator to one side so a pantry cabinet could be installed. The linoleum flooring was torn up, and a flooring company came int to feather new hardwood in to match the rest of the first floor flooring. We topped off the room with a new tile backsplash and a fresh coast of paint.

ANDERSON
TOWNSHIP
Sometimes, a kitchen remodel is really just an update. For this kitchen in Anderson Township, the layout didn't need to change much. We replaced the old cabinets with Maple cabinets and installed new granite counters. Most of the major appliances were also updated, and the room was brightened up with a fresh coat of paint and a new tile backsplash.

Working in an older home always presents a fascinating set of challenges. When we pulled out the old kitchen, we had to remove a brick chimney that was hidden behind the original cabinets! We also took down the wall between the kitchen and dining room and relocated the entry door. After we removed everything, we had to replace several floor joists, and then we installed the new cabinets and appliances. The sink and dishwasher were relocated to an island, and we installed recessed lights, hanging pendant lights over the island, and in-cabinet lighting. We repurposed a French lite door for the half-bath by repainting it and frosting the glass. The room was finished off with a new backsplash and a lighter color of paint.

WASHINGTON
This kitchen is a classic example of taking a dated kitchen and bringing up to modern standards. The original layout was cramped, dark, and lacked storage space, so after removing the existing fixtures, we added roughly double the amount of cabinets! We also repainted the walls and installed new lighting in order to further brighten the room.

This kitchen had a really nice layout, so the only thing that really needed updating was the cabinetry and fixtures. We removed the existing fixtures and installed Maple cabinets and granite countertops. The one major change we made was to take out the small bar build a bigger, better bar where there was originally a half-wall. This opened up the room considerably, and we topped it off with a fresh coat of paint and a decorative backsplash.
